CHAPLIN - (Broadway) - Review #4

As they say in the show... "COME SEE CHARLIE CHAPLIN!!!!"

On a trip to NYC where I was sicky and alittle sad that my current BF could not join me to originally see the new production of Bare the Musical, while standing in the TKTS line I was talking to the TKTS helpers, and well helping them too.  Someone asked about Jersey Boys... and the helper didn't have a really good idea of what that show was.... ?!?!?!..  After I told the person it was a Original Jukebox musical about the 4 Seasons using there original music to tell the story...  The TKTS guy said I should work there.  Well with 70 musicals under my belt I would hope to know that Jersey Boys was.. haha..  Well however this helper did know a bit about Chaplin, and reminded me it was closing.  I heard alot of about from On Broadway on Sirius XM, and well... there was a few reason's this show got my interest over lets stay Book of Mormon and Once... However, after the hype there is a chance I might still like Once.

So I decided to choose Chaplin.  Not alot of trills, but as for telling a trueish story, and how Chaplin was exiled from the great US of A for being a humanitarian, and well frankly speaking out about Hitler the the horrible stuff there before anyone else. (back in the day doing that made you a Communist... really?  didn't have a clue back then.. or now...)

But the story was amazing.  Music was really good....  Dancing was good...  Another show I wouldn't mind tackling in a amateur setting.....

I was really glad I went.  Rob McClure is freaking spot on with Chaplin!!! What an outstanding performer!!!!  He should win Best Actor in a musical!!!

And of course with such a great musical.. they are closing it way too soon.  This time it is Super Storm Sandy's fault.  They never got over the drop from the storm...  So sad.

So hurry up!!  Come see Charlie Chaplin!!!!

2 must see's!!

NEWSIES (Broadway) - Review #3

Now I always loved the movie.... and well I always thought the movie could have had more music and such, in this new take on the whole story, kinda works and kinda works ok...

Not sure if I like the change of the news guy from being a guy to a girl...  and to make her a love interest, with connections to the other side...  (see what I mean....)  and well they did fix Santa Fe, I always liked the start in the movie then hated the end.  But over all for a "Disney" musical, I must say it could have been A LOT worse....

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the cute males dancing and the harmonies are spot on.  Dancing was first rate.  I can see how it made it from a limited to open run.  It is and was deserving of it!  I will say the "new" music is the weakest.

I still give it...
2 must see's!!

Wonderland (Broadway) - Review #2

This is the reason I started this blog...  I found Wonderland to be Wonderfull....  however watching this preview it just makes more more glad I saw Alice's understudy, not the lead.  I liked her voice better, and while after seeing this... it was truely the magic that understudys have....  They don't get the chance as often... so there performance has that extra life of wonderment...  Not to slight the original... but I wish this show had a longer run then it did...  such a shame... but since I found this clip I wanted to keep it for the memory....

Leap of Faith - Review #1

Welcome to Jason's Mind Broadway Review!  #1!!! (the first one!!!)

After seeing Leap of Faith last month, I told my friend Eric (the one that got the tickets at a good price), we should start doing a video blog reviewing musicals...  Because we seem to Starbucks afterwords and talk about the show we just saw....

So we didn't do that for American Idiot, where we basically asked, Ok what was that all about, and it took me half way threw Jersey to figure it out was that life doesn't necessarily goes the way you planned it, or wanted it, and well it's not necessarily a bad thing.

We didn't do it for Catch me if you can either, which again we were surprised how a movie turns into a musical and worked.  We both loved it, saw it in previews with the full original cast.  Aaron was great and so was Norbert & whats her name....  oh ya Kerry Butler....

Well when he asked about Leap of Faith (to get tickets) I wasn't exactly trilled.  I pictured another horrible movie musical. (Which I always say) and now with Catch me and Leap... well, I need to stop the hate of the movie to musical... (however I'm still afraid to see Ghost the musical.... haha)

While, we both loved the show.  Eric was confused in how or why the "4th wall" got broken, at times, and I explained that was all....  Back to the Future type of thing (and I refuse to see that movie to musical... Back to the Future the musical.... and if it does come out in 5 years... I want credit and paid for the idea.. haha)  after that explanation it worked for him.  I originally only wanted to see it because I wanted to see Raul in person, and I wasn't let down one bit.  He has an amazing "original" sounding voice.  And the whole show worked well for me.  Even so I can see me wanting to direct it and star in it at the same time in a community theatre setting... haha..

So I give Leap of Faith 2 must see's!!

Maybe this being the first review...  Ladies and Gentlemen the "must see's scale"!!!
